The Acting Foreign Affairs Minister and International Cooperation is in the United Arabs Emirates for bilateral talks and to lobby for the lifting of the arms embargo on South Sudan.
Deng Dau Deng left for Abu Debi on Sunday following an invitation from UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Speaking on state media SSBC, he said his one-day trip is to engage South Sudan partners on its national issues including the arms embargo.
“I have been invited by the foreign minister to meet him only for one day visit and I will be coming back on Wednesday,” he said before departing at Juba Internaitonal Airport.
Deng said South Sudan has established a longstanding bilateral relations with the oil-rich Gulf country.
“At the multilateral level, we have been discussing quite a number of issues in New York and Geneva, so this is one important visit for South Sudan to be able to engage our partners on our national issues.”
“And particularly on issues that are affecting us like the issue of sanctions we want to engage them to inform some of these members of UN security council.”
