Warrap starts selling subsidized grain to counties

The government of Warrap State on Monday began the distribution of subsidized food commodities to its six counties at half the current market price in an attempt to bring down skyrocketing prices.

In March, the state government procured sixty-five trucks of grain from the government of Sudan to address the high commodity prices in the state.

The information minister, William Wol Mayom said two thousand eight hundred and fifty 2,850 metric tons will be transported and distributed where each county will receive six hundred bags of sorghum and Payams will get five hundred bags.

“Each county of Warrap State shall receive 6 hundred bags of sorghum and each payam shall receive 5 hundred bags of sorghum and each bag weighs at 9 hundred kgs and if you add 6 counties of Warrap and 42 Payams,” Wol said.

He added that four thousand bags will be sold to the Municipal Council of Kwajok.

Mayom said one kilo of Sorghum will be sold at One thousand South Sudanese Pounds (SSP.1,000) – which is half of the current market price.

“They can give you two thousand eight hundred and fifty metric tons that have been distributed and transported today to the various locations of Warrap state plus 4 thousand bags for the municipal council of Warrap state.”

“The price that will subsidize the market is that one kilo of Sorghum could be one thousand ssp compared to the current price which is two thousand five hundred in the market”.
