A young man in Ezo County of Western Equatoria State has won a tight food-eating competition after finishing a “delicious” meal in five minutes.

The five male competitors were served beans cooked with oil, posho, and bread on a full plate during the Easter Monday celebration that took place at Ezo Freedom Square.

“We just asked the volunteers, those who can have that talent of eating in front of the public then they volunteered themselves to come and do this game,” said Henry Zenaro Agia, Chairperson for the Easter Monday Steering Committee in Ezo County.

Zenaro said all competitors were men after women refused to participate.

“The competitors were five and out of the five, there was a first winner then the second and the third, and two losers. The loser was the one who did not reach half of the food and the game was over.”

According to Zenaro, the first winner identified as Elisa Elia Perembata walked away with 3,000 South Sudanese pounds while the second winner walked away with 2,000 pounds respectively.

Speaking to Eye Radio, the eating competition winner Elisa Elia Perembata said he completed the plate within 2 minutes contrary to the five minutes revealed by the organizers.

“I was so fast and completed mine within 2 minutes before reaching the ten minutes. So it is a blessing that God gave me to have that talent of eating faster,” he said.

Hundreds of residents of Ezo County turned out on Monday to witness different sports activities including football.

Bii Jorem, 26, who could not win the competition said: “The reason why I became the least in the competition yesterday is that after giving us the food I started to eat faster than the other competitors but afterward, they bypass me.”

Other games played during Easter Monday include tug-of-war between the area youth and organized forces, where the youth won.
