At least four women have been abducted by armed youth suspected to have come from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, the commissioner of Nyirol County in Jonglei State has said.

Nyirol Commissioner James Bol Makuei said the incident occurred on Monday, April 3, 2023.

He said the women were traveling to nearby Cuil Payam when they were attacked and abducted.

“They were going from Nyirol County to Cuil, which is one of the params that takes like three days on foot. The attackers are moving everywhere,” he said.

Bol said one of the attackers was shot dead by a man who saw them moving away with the hostages.

He said up to now, they do not know the whereabouts of the abducted women, but they accuse the youth from Greater Pibor to be behind the incident.

Commissioner Bol said attacks by suspected Murle youth are rampant in several areas East of Jonglei State.

“In Waat Payam of Nyirol County, they [attackers] killed two soldiers who went fishing.”

Authorities of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area are yet to comment on the matter.
